Syncing = fail

Hi,

My Standalone is not syncing - it starts, then fails. The error code is: 838284904.

Any suggestions?!

Thanks in anticipation!
  • There should be a small red exclamation mark to the left of the sync icon. When you click on it--what does it say?
  • [JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS) [nsIFile.create]" nsresult: "0x80520008 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ALREADY_EXISTS)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/file.js :: Zotero.File</this.createShortened :: line 326" data: no]" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/file.js" line: 660}]
    Can you provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that triggers this?
  • I get the same error with ID 553913376, when I sync a group library.

    Any clue?

  • Dan will want a Debug ID (different from a report ID that you provide). Instructions linked to from his post.
  • Thanks, debug ID is D1401710670.
  • I'll look into the cause of this, but sigbjornk, in the meantime you can find the problematic item by pasting TKC8AT2N into the Zotero search bar in All Fields & Tags mode in one of your group libraries. Somehow a hidden Zotero file (.zotero-ft-cache) became the main file associated with that attachment, instead of the PDF. We've seen this a couple times, but I'm not sure how it happens. I'll try to reproduce it and fix it, but for the moment your best bet is to delete that attachment item and empty the trash. You should then be able to sync — if you get a conflict for that item, choose the local deleted copy — and you can then add back the original PDF.
  • Excellent, that solved it!

    Thanks for your help.
  • Hi,

    Still have the same problem - even though have tried the steps reccommended for sigbjornk: i couldn't find TKC8AT2N in any group library.

    Debug ID is D491829958 - help appreciated!
  • Crawf: Your issue is different (and TKC8AT2N is specific to sigbjornk's library anyway). Start a new thread and we'll help you with yours.
  • (this was originally Crawf's thread)
  • Oh, sorry Crawf, my mistake. No need for a new thread, then. I'll look into the issue in your debug output.
  • OK, I believe this should be fixed in the latest 4.0 Beta, so if you have Firefox installed, you can install that over your current Zotero for Firefox version, close Standalone, and sync once with that.

    Otherwise you can search for 7G6FZCK9 in one of your group libraries, delete that attachment, and empty the trash (or rename the file to something other than ".pdf" on the computer where it was added, if possible). This will be fixed in 4.0.27 when it comes out.
  • And this might affect other group members, so if you do install the beta, you should rename the file after syncing and then sync again.

    After syncing once, you can also reinstall the release version of Zotero for Firefox.
