waterfox and standalone miscommunication

Zotero: 4.0.26.2
WaterFox: 36.0.1
Win 7, 64bit

Zotero Standalone and Zotero extension installed in Waterfox (64bit Firefox build) used to play together nicely. A few days ago, they stopped doing so. Now, if Waterfox is running, starting Zotero Standalone reports that the zotero database is in use and to close the zotero extension if it is in use (even if its not). The only workaround is to close Waterfox, allowing Zotero Standalone to run fine. Alternatively, if Zotero Standalone is running and Waterfox is started, and then Zotero Extension activated, it reports that Zotero Standalone was launched but is not accessible, and recommends restarting if there was an error starting Zotero Standalone (which there wasn't, since it was already running!).

I believe this may have coincided with a change two updates ago.

Any solutions?

PS I haven't tested word plugin interaction, which has never worked from Waterfox+Zotero Extension.

And you've tried restarting your computer?

It now appears that Zotero 4.0.27.3 and Waterfox 38.0.1 have further problems: any time Zotero's proxy redirection is invoked, WF hangs completely and the process has to be killed. Hopefully it will disappear when WF increments to match the latest FF distribution.
