Most attempts to open Zotero fail, producing an error message saying to restart Firefox.

Additionally, I am not able to add new citations.

This suggests some sort of issue in your Zotero data directory, and specifically the 'tranlators' subdirectory, possibly due to security software on your system (SELinux, AppArmor, etc.) interfering with Firefox's ability to write to the disk. This is more likely if your data directory is not within your Firefox profile directory.
