Can't access INSPEC through library proxy

  • sorry, you'll need to step back and tell us what exactly you're trying to do, including which URL, what's happening etc.
  • When I try to access a some journal databases through my university library proxy, in particular INSPEC and SPIE I get a blank page and no access.

    My University Library URL:
    https://www.library.carleton.ca/find/databases

The database I am trying to access: INSPEC
    http://www.engineeringvillage.com.proxy.library.carleton.ca/search/quick.url?CID=quickSearch&database=2&acw=&utt=

I get a message asking: Zotero detected you are accessing this website through a proxy. Would you like to automatically redirect future requests to www.engineeringvillage.com through proxy.library.carleton.ca, with a blank page and an enable button to allow the redirect automatically.

The thing is at this point I can access some other databases without problem, ex. INFOMINE (http://library.ucr.edu/view/infomine)

Adding the proxy for redirect in the Configured Proxies, or not does not have an effect. For example, with INFOMINE I can access it with no configured proxies.

I am running Windows 8.1, and Firefox 36.0

With my beater laptop running Ubuntu 14.01 and Firefox 35.0.1, I do not seem to have this difficulty:(
  • This is probably not a Zotero issue: In order to connect to resources that require a subscription from your library from off campus, you have to go through a proxy. Zotero can remember those proxied resources so that anytime you go to that site (e.g. later on through a link on google scholar or so) it automatically routes you through your university, so you have access. You can disable that feature in the "Proxy" tab of the Zotero preferences.

I'd guess that if you disable the Zotero feature, you'd get the same result on that page. Is that correct? If so, you'll need to take that to your library (though my guess would be your cookie settings in Firefox, if you want to troubleshoot yourself). If this works with the Zotero proxy feature disabled, we can take a closer look.
