Importing from Endnote - takes the date accessed as the published date

Hellou,
I just followed the instructions to import my references from Endnote to Zotero and I found that it has taken the date accessed ([DA] is RIS format) as it was the published year ([PY] in RIS format) even when the latter one is filled in the Endnote reference.

How can I fix this?
Thank you!
  • DA can be date accessed or just date depending on the item type. Can you provide a sample RIS entry (starting with TY and ending with ER) where you think this is not correct?
  • Thanks for the quick response:

  • The import looks right to me. In EndNote the DA value for Journal Article comes straight from the Date field and the Access Date is placed into Y2. If you're seeing something different, try updating your RIS output style in EndNote to the latest version from http://endnote.com/downloads/style/reference-manager-ris-export
  • Thank you. I did that previous to importing the references, as advised in https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/importing_records_from_endnote

Still, I have repeated the process, and I obtain the same results. In the field "Date" of Zotero, for the sample I provided, I get "December 17, 2012" which is not the published year (2011) but the date I downloaded the citation to Endnote.

Any idea how to solve this? because I have many references in that form (with [DA] filled in).

    Thank you.
  • Does the record appear correctly in EndNote? What are the Date, Access Date, and Year fields?
  • I have realised that you wanted a sample from Zotero, not from Endnote.
This is the previous sample in Zotero (as you see now [PY] is 2012 instead of 2011):

    TY - JOUR
    AU - Eriksen, Siri
    AU - Brown, Katrina
    DO - 10.3763/cdev.2010.0064
    M1 - 1
    PY - 2012
    SN - 1756-5529

  • As I have mentioned the first sample was from Endnote. The second is what I get in Zotero after the import.
  • No, I wanted the RIS as exported by EndNote. The RIS you provided from EndNote doesn't make sense given that the information is entered correctly in EndNote and that the output style is up to date. As I said above, the output style in EndNote places date in DA and access date in Y2. If you're seeing something else, then the easiest route to make the metadata import properly is to figure out why the export is not working correctly.
  • The problem is that many (not all) citations I have downloaded in the past store the downloading date and time in the field "Date" (=[DA]) in Endnote.

For the moment, I have deleted the line
    DA - `Date|`
in the style manager of Endnote for the RefMan (RIS) Export style and I have saved it with another name (because I will use it just for this purpose). I have used this style to export to Zotero and apparently, it works well.

    Thanks for your time!
