Disabling automatic RIS/Refer import in the Zotero preferences-Mac

Hi, can anyone please tell me how to disable the automatic RIS/Refer import in Zotero (4.0.17) for Mac (10.9). There is no option for this in the preferences panel! I really appreciate it- I am going crazy. The problem started when I installed the stand-alone version of zotero. Using the web version before I never had this problem. I only use zotero for web resources, my default reference manager is endnote.

Many thanks
  • There's no option because that feature doesn't exist in Zotero Standalone, only in Zotero for Firefox. Zotero Standalone does associate itself with .ris and .bib files when you first install it, however, which I assume it what you're referring to. To change that you just need to tell OS X to open the files in EndNote instead, the way you would any other file type: control-click on a file with that extension, hold down Option, and choose the application you want to use to open the file.
  • Many thanks for your answer. The problem is indeed with zotero for firefox and it happens when i tried to export a citation in google scholar or any online journal into endnote i get a message that reads:

'Do you want to import items from "scholar.google.co.uk.chain.kent.ac.uk" into Zotero? You can disable automatic RIS/Refer import in the Zotero preferences.

I can then either cancel the operation (in which case no citation is exported) or ok for the citation to be exported into zotero

    Thanks again
  • Oh, so, close Standalone, and then you can access the Zotero for Firefox preferences and disable that option.
  • seems to have worked- thanks a million!
