Problems with Macros and Word

Hi there,

Hopefully someone will be able to help me... I've successfully installed Zotero Add-in for Word, but now each time I open Microsoft Word (any document) the following message appears: "The document contains macros. Macro language support for this application is disabled. Features requiring VBA are not available. Would you like to open this document read-only?"

I've already been to File> Trust Center> Trust Center Settings > Enable all macros + Trust access to the VBA project object model, and afterwards have re-started both Word and the whole computer, but still the same message appears.

Can someone help me please?
Thanks,
Natalia
  • You shouldn't need to do any of that.

How exactly did you install the Word plugin?
  • Hi Dan,
I went here> http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation and installed this> Install Word for Windows Plugin 3.1.12 (Firefox extension)
    Did I do something wrong?
  • That's fine, but then what did you do? Are you saying that you simply installed that extension into Firefox and then when you restarted Word you got the above message? Or did you take other steps in between?
  • After installing the plugin, I closed Word (it was open, may this cause the problem?), then open it again and then the add-ins was there in Word.

When I open a Word I have 3 options: Ok, Cancel or Help. If I click 'ok', I can see the Add-ins, but if I click on 'Cancel' the Add-ins disappear.

Do you know how can I uninstall the plugin?
  • I've been reading these posts> http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/3845/ and http://www.zotero.org/support/windows_word_plugin_manual_installation_instructions to find Zotero.dot but can't see it, it's just disappeared!

    I can only see Zotero.dot when I go to File> Options> Add-Ins > Zotero.dot is under "Active Application Add-Ins", Type = Template
  • There's been only one other report of this message, in a lab environment. Are you on your own computer, or is this an institutional computer that might have a group policy set blocking add-ons?

If this is a personal computer, I'm not sure what to suggest other than reinstalling Word and making sure that VBA is enabled.
    I can only see Zotero.dot when I go to File> Options> Add-Ins > Zotero.dot is under "Active Application Add-Ins", Type = Template
It should be in the directory listed in that dialog.
  • Nataliaf I had the same problem. If you go to Trust Center and settings, then to File Blocked setting- make sure that your file isn't being blocked. My zotero.dot was a 97 template (who knew)...which was checked as open...after I deselected my Zotero worked great.
