APA german

Hello,
i am on a mac. using first the standalone and then trying the Firefox-version too.

i would like to use the APA-Style, pretty standard. But since i am from germany i need to change ed./eds. to Hrsg. (single and multiple is the same in german here) and pp. to S.
i downloaded the APA from the repository and opened it with an editor-app.

and changed the following:

<locale xml:lang="de-DE">
<terms>
<term name="editortranslator" form="short">
<single>Hrsg. & trans.</single>
<multiple>Hrsg. & trans.</multiple>
</term>

as you see i also changed the language (but also tried with en/de instead of de-DE)

unfortunately i didn't find the line where i can change pp. to S.

Still the format doesn't change the output stays wie ed/eds.

would very much appreciate your help!
thanks and greetings

Does that help? http://www.zotero.org/support/supported_languages#citations_and_bibliographies

You need to add this to your style to get "S." instead of "pp.":
<term name="page" form="short">
<single>S.</single>
<multiple>S.</multiple>
</term>

i.e.
<locale xml:lang="de-DE">
<terms>
<term name="editortranslator" form="short">
<single>Hrsg. & trans.</single>
<multiple>Hrsg. & trans.</multiple>
</term>
<term name="page" form="short">
<single>S.</single>
<multiple>S.</multiple>
</term>
</terms>
</locale>
• Hi thanks for your quick answer,
i followed the instructions behind the link, but nothing changed.

shouldn't the code of the original APA-Style contain something like this:

<term name="page" form="short">
<single>p.</single>
<multiple>pp.</multiple>
</term>

because it doesn't and that's why i don't know where to exactly put it.

sorry if i am not the smartest about this
• Which style exactly do you use, i.e. which "APA"?
Your OS, zotero, firefox are in Englis or German?
shouldn't the code of the original APA-Style contain something like this:
No. Styles rely on locales files embedded in zotero (you can find them here). It's only when a specific change is needed that a style redefines some terms.
• thank you for your fast answer!

i am using the latest version apa (6th) which can be found here:
http://www.zotero.org/styles/apa

Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1, Zotero 3.0.8.1, Firefox 15.0.1
everything in german

OK.
In the style, you've to replace:
<locale xml:lang="en">
[...]
</locale>

by
<locale xml:lang="de-DE">
<terms>
<term name="editortranslator" form="short">
<single>Hrsg. & trans.</single>
<multiple>Hrsg. & trans.</multiple>
</term>
<term name="page" form="short">
<single>S.</single>
<multiple>S.</multiple>
</term>
</terms>
</locale>

Save and install your custom style (instructions here)

Just to be sure:
in APA6, "pp." or "S." will appear only when there's a locator, i.e.: "Smith, 2005, S. 1009".
In the bibliography, you'll get "Smith, J. (2005). Footitle. Foojournal, (18), 1008-1011."

If you want to get "S." before "1008-1011", you need to edit the style.
• Well thank you,
but the version i built from up there seemed very buggy so i was wondering why i didn't get the usual transciption it is supposed to be, than i found this:
http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/24524/zotero-standalone-with-german-inteface/
Dan Stillman's Post was the key, apparently my firefox wasn't set to de-De but en-US, though the interface and everything was in german for sure.

still for future problems, this was the solution!
