Word citations not updating aft deleting citations - Report ID: 528256537
Hello,
I am experiencing a problem with Zotero after updating from Zotero 7 to Zotero 9 on macOS.
Report ID: 528256537
Here is my situation:
macOS with Microsoft Word for Mac (Microsoft 365, Version 16.111.2).
Zotero was updated from version 7 to version 9. The problem persists after upgrading to Zotero 9 and reinstalling the Microsoft Word plugin.
My Zotero data directory was preserved (I also made a complete backup before updating).
The Word plugin is installed and working.
Zotero opens normally and my library is intact.
The problem concerns a manuscript that I duplicated in Finder before making revisions.
The document still contains active Zotero fields:
I can insert a new citation successfully.
Zotero communicates correctly with Word.
The bibliography is generated.
However, when I delete citations from the manuscript and click Refresh, the citation numbers are not renumbered.
For example:
after deleting references 8–13,
the numbering jumps directly from 7 to 14 instead of becoming 7, 8, 9...
In addition:
clicking on existing citation numbers in Word does not highlight them as Zotero fields;
Refresh opens the document preferences correctly but does not renumber citations;
inserting a brand-new citation works correctly, showing that the Word plugin is connected.
This problem occurs in a duplicated copy of the manuscript. I still have the original manuscript.
Could this indicate document corruption, or is there another explanation?
I am currently revising a manuscript for journal resubmission, so restoring proper citation renumbering is quite urgent.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
