Zotero connector not working: Chrome/Ubuntu

Hello, first of all I'd like to say how much I appreciate this community and the Zotero software. I've used it for over 10 years and never had a problem until now.

I can no longer save from Chrome to Zotero using the web connector. I click on the button, or right-click and use the menu to select 'save to Zotero, but neither works. Sometimes the pinned icon is a red Z, sometimes a grey Z, sometimes a white page. I've tried disabling other extensions to no avail, and followed the other commonly available steps. Very occasionally, a site works (for example, zotero.org gives me an icon with a white page with a blue line at the bottom, and the connector works.

OS: Ubuntu 22.04
Chrome: Version 142.0.7444.134 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Zotero: 7.0.27 (64-bit)
Zotero connector: Version 5.0.190

    Provide a Debug ID for loading/refreshing a page that you want to save, and clicking the Zotero button.

    Hmm, interesting: when I refresh a page just prior to saving to Zotero, it works. If I don't refresh, it doesn't work. This is a tolerable workaround (assuming it keeps working), but why would this be happening?

    Are you saving pages/tabs that you have had open for a while (a few days, weeks)? If so, that's the most likely reason, particularly since we've released an extension update 5 days ago, which would mean that the opened pages got stale from the viewpoint of the Zotero Connector.
