Web library: "Some updates failed" when using "Add by Identifier"

edited October 20, 2025
Good morning,
When using the function "Add by Identifier" (DOIs), I keep getting the message "Some updates failed" although the actual DOIs are correct
How do we fix this, please?
Thank you.

This is in the web library? Be sure to always mention that in your thread title, or else people will assume you're referring to the desktop app. I've updated your title.

    What's a DOI you're trying?
  • Sure, thank you. Yes, this was in the web library; I tried several DOIs. The issue is resolved now. Thank you very much.
  • OK, then that was likely due to the Amazon cloud outage that affected many websites.
  • Good morning,
I'm using the web library. The system does not allow to change the refrence style: the page gets non-responsive.
    Please advise.
    Thank you

Changing the citation style in the bibliography dialog in the web library should work, so this looks like something specific to your setup.
    1. How many items did you select before opening the bibliography dialog?
    2. Does it freeze on any style, or only when switching to a particular one?
    3. Are there any errors in the browser console?

  • (1) I tried different numbers, e.g., one, 25 etc. It's the same. (2) I go to Bibliography, Citation style, click on 10,800+. In the Citation Style window, I can type only one letter. Then the system gets frozen. When I refresh, it says “Page Unresponsive. You can wait or exit …”.
  • Incidentally, the "Add By Identifier" function does not work either.

What browser are you using to visit the web library?

Here are some things to try:
    1. Open the web library in another browser and check if the problem persists.
    2. If it works in another browser, it might be a browser extension blocking requests. Check ad blockers or content blockers.
    3. Either way, check the browser console when the freeze happens. Let us know if you see any errors there, especially something like net::ERR_BLOCKED or a CORS error.
    4. You can also try on a different network (e.g., a mobile hotspot) to rule out a firewall or DNS filter on your current connection.

  • Good morning,
I waited for a few days and have just tried to connect via a VPN. It seems to be working now., i.e., I can change the referencing style from "10,800+ styles available".
Thank you very much for your help.
