Citations have different years in zotero and journal official website

edited 4 days ago
Hi,
Why does zotero generate a citation year that doesn't match the one provided on the journal official site? I save entries from the official site using the extention.
This really makes me feel anxious and I need to manually go through it all.

Please provide an example, i.e, URL you are saving from and what you are seeing in Zotero.

For example, citation on the journal website:
Jūra Liaukonytė, Anna Tuchman, Xinrong Zhu (2022) Rejoinder: Spilling More Beans on Political Consumerism: It’s More of the Same Tune. Marketing Science 42(1):32-36. https://doi.org/10.1287/mksc.2022.1411

But in Zotero it is shown as 2023, and (Liaukonytė et al., 2023)

  • Publisher is indicating 2023 as year of publication in the different formats (RIS, BibTex,...) of citation data. (And contradict itself in the "Cite as"). 2023 is the the year the article has been assigned a volume/issue, i.e., the print publication.
  • Thanks for the answer! I now realise that it may be because the first online publication was in October 2022, when actual print volume was in January 2023. And for RIS, BibTex... they all use print publication date ;)
  • To be clear, 2023 is the more appropriate publication date for citation purposes in this case.
