Feature Request: Add “Sheet Music” as an Item Type

I am currently writing a term paper at my university and need to cite a musical work — specifically a particular edition of sheet music. However, I could not find “Sheet Music” as an item type in Zotero.

At the moment, I have to enter it as a book, which doesn’t feel appropriate. The next closest option might be “Artwork,” but that item type lacks essential fields such as publisher and place of publication.

It would be very helpful if Zotero supported “Sheet Music” (or “Score”) as a dedicated item type, with relevant bibliographic fields included.
  • You can add variables like Publisher into the extra field:
    publisher: Mozart Musikverlag
    publisher-place: Salzburg
  • I would recommend using Book or Artwork and entering this in Extra:

    Type: musical_score

That will instruct the citation formatter to format the item as a musical score for styles that support that type.
  • To make Zotero truly robust for music research, it would be hugely helpful to see:

    1. A native "Musical Score" item type with dedicated fields suited to music publishing, such as:
    • Composer, Arranger, Editor, and Lyricist/Librettist
    • Opus / Catalogue Number (e.g., BWV, K., Op.)
    • Instrumentation / Format (e.g., full score, vocal score, miniature score, parts)
    • Edition (e.g., Urtext, critical edition) and Plate / Publisher Number

    2. Improved music handling for "Audio Recording": While having Audio Recording is great, music researchers often need clearer separation between Composer and Performer (so classical works can be cited under the composer rather than defaulting to the performer), as well as native fields for Album/Container Title and Track Number without needing the Extra field.

Thank you for considering this and for all your ongoing work on Zotero!
