Difference in Zotero portable versions?

edited 3 days ago
Hello,

Is there any difference between the portable version of Zotero that can be downloaded on the PortableApps website (https://portableapps.com/apps/office/zotero-portable) and the ZIP version that is avaible here on Zotero.org (https://www.zotero.org/download/)? Except for the difference in the release version (currently, 7.0.15 vs 7.0.24).
Is the ZIP version really fully portable and are all settings saved in the program folder? Does it matter/cause problems if the drive letter changes for the "installed" ZIP version?
  • The ZIP just omits the installer and gives you the files that would go in the Program Files folder. It doesn't change anything about where Zotero saves settings or data, so it doesn't create a portable version. (The profile folder is configurable with the standard Firefox profile manager flags, though, and the data directory can be configured either in the settings or on the command line with -datadir [path].)

We don't have anything to do with the portable version. We can't vouch for any downloads other than the official ones on our website, nor can we provide any support if you use an unofficial build.
  • OK, I understand. Thanks for the clear answer. I was just a bit confused because in a different thread where the ZIP version was called portable version. I already knew about the option to change the data directory, which is indeed very useful.
