New citations not detected as fields on word

Hello,

A coworker and I have recently started to have a bug with zotero on word : when we create a new citation in a word document, the citation isn't recognised as a field by word, and isn't highlighted in grey anymore. When we generate a bibliography, the newly referred books appear, though.
I tried inserting a citation in a new document, and everything was normal, so I assume there is something interfering in my first document. I have already combed through the 'Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents' page, but I didn't find anything.

The document I'm having trouble with in a report we're currently writing, and I suspect it has something to do with the model, though I'm not certain.

We have also experienced another bug, but I don't know if it's related to the first one or not. We always use a specific bibliography style, and it is selected in the document preferences and in zotero. But when we generate a bibliography, it doesn't come out as it should. Does anyone know what causes this ?
We use version 7.0.13.

Thank you !
  • If the item appears in the bibliography, the citation is on a Word field. You may just have field shading turned off in Word?

For the bibliography, we'd need more details, but you are on an outdated Zotero version and should update

After checking, the problem does come from our model, but we haven't identified it yet.

For the bibliography, the problem is that all the right informations come out in the right order, but titles are not in italic, and the font is not right either.
As for updating...well, I'll try, but this is my work computer, so I am basically not allowed to do anything on it. We have to ask the support department to do it for us and it's always a struggle because we're the only ones in the whole structure to use it and they are annoyed because we often have problems with zotero lately.

Anyway, thank you for your answer !

Edit : sorry, I forgot to add that no, field shading is not turned off !
  • Hello again,

We found out that something is wrong with our word model, and it impacts zotero somehow. We ended up with two, sometimes three separate bibliographies on several documents (each bibliography corresponding to a different person writing in the document). The newly added citations are not fields (when I right-click on them, I cannot toggle fields code, edit or update fields. The option doesn't appear). But when I generate a bibliography it works, somehow. But it is a separate bibliography from the one that is already generated as an example in our model, and it isn't in the right form either (not the right font, not italic). I have no idea what causes this.

Word doesn't show Toggle Field Codes on fields in footnotes, so that part isn't meaningful.

See Existing Citations Not Detected for how to reliably check whether a citation is still a Zotero citation and the reasons they'd be flattened.

For the font, adjust the "Bibliography" Word style.

    For italics, see https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/italics_in_word_bibliographies
  • We found what caused the problem. It was half because of our word model, and half because of zotero. Some preferences reseted after the last update, but now everything works fine. Thank you for your time !
