Creating a New Style

Hi everyone,

I have created a new style for our university by coordination with one of our professors and submitted it to github and made a pull request, but it has been more than a week and there's no review on it.

https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/pull/7315

I followed the Style Requirements on CSL site, so I don't know what is wrong with my code and why is it not getting accepted.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Best regards,
  • I have cited documentation links for the style to zotero website, so I could write them here, but I am not sure if I am doing it right.

So if I the CSL gets approved on github, will it be available on Zotero Repository? Or do I have to post it to Zotero repository somehow?

There is probably nothing wrong with your code, but unfortunately the Zotero translators suffer from a shortage of human resources for PR reviews, and there is a very significant backlog. It can take months before someone actually looks at a new submission.

My best advice: patience. Patience. And more patience.
  • Sorry, it took me a few minutes to realize my answer is irrelevant. Translators and styles are of course different animals, and the situation of the style repositories is much better.

It can still take a little while, but certainly not months.

(my apologies for the confusion - not enough morning coffee, apparently ;-) )
  • Ah, well

AI is pretty good at translation nowadays
Much better than most translators even...
So I guess they can use that for reducing the workload

And for the style, I guess I'll wait and see, but I don't see an increase in numbers of 10.532 styles in Zotero repository for two weeks now, which makes me wonder...

So if my github pull request is approved, it'll come to Zotero repo automatically?
  • "Translators" here in the context of Zotero means the translators that are able to read the metadata on websites so you can import it into Zotero. AI is not helpful for that.

You don't have anything to do for now.
The CSL team will eventually get to it, and once merged, the style will be available from the style repository.
Note that there are more than 220 open PRs. It'll be a while.
