PDF Annotations - metadata storage capacity

Hi, I got an interesting question from a library patron today. If you are using Zotero to add annotations to a file, I know those exist as metadata in Zotero. They asked if the metadata takes up any storage space, impacting the amount of storage they are using on the server.

I hope I worded that clearly enough for an answer. Thanks!
  • No, no metadata/annotations are counted against storage (even if it were, btw: since the annotations are stored in plain text/JSON, they're *tiny*. You'd have to annotate a *lot* to even make it to 10MB).

Images in Notes are the only thing other than attached files that'll take up storage.
  • Thanks for the clear response! I figured they'd be small, but I wanted to double-check. I'll share this with my patron!
