For some reason I can no longer reproduce this error, even though I just did fix it and reproduce it once. Something anomalous seems to have been going on.
-
When I rename the file from parent metadata, the error goes away. Strangely, there are no unusual characters in the file name ("Fanon black_skin_white_masks.pdf").
-
That's strange, the PDF file it lists in that line ("Not deleting symlink") is a regular file. I deleted it manually in the file browser (rather than just trashing it), and the error message went away. Then I added it again (Attach Stored Copy of Fi…

Thanks for following up. I'll post again if it continues. I am running the most recent version.
-
And of course .zotero-ft-cache now contains the output of pdftotext 3.03.
-
Aha, got it. Ok, I moved the Zotero version to a .bk extension and symlinked to the system's version of pdftotext (and updated the "version" file to "3.03") and it does indeed index this pdf file now. Thanks for solving this for me!
-
Sorry for the basic question, but can you help me find the pdftotext binary? I'm looking in the Zotero standalone folder and can't find it.
-
Ah, I see. I was assuming you're using the same pdftotext I have installed on my system (3.03), but I have no problem extracting it using the command line. (This one is readable without a password.) Thanks for looking into this.
-
Sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking for. There is no .zotero-ft-cache in the directory.
-
Oh right, I figured maybe that was intentional.
-
(Sorry, typo: the above should read "it now just has new errors", as in, it only mentions the current file name.)
-
Yes I just restarted Zotero (I'm using standalone) and it not just has new errors. (D253448755) I opened up the cache file and there's no PDF text there. Here is all the text there is (repeated for every time I hit the index button): Title…

Yes, I checked multiple times. I just tested again and the same thing happens. The log starts with 2 identical lines ([JavaScript Error: "Brubaker and Cooper - 2000 - Beyond Identity.pdf was not indexed" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/fulltex…

Is there any workaround for reordering names while I'm waiting for Zotero to be updated to order names according to this discussion, or am I stuck with Zotero's automatic ordering?
-
But one question I have is, Chicago shows the al- coming at the end of the name (Hakim, Tawfiq al-) in the same way it shows "de" and other particles coming at the end (Beauvoir, Simone de; Keere, Pieter van den). Yet it specifies including the al- …
-
Right I was curious and just looked this up too. Thanks for checking.
-
Yes that would be my preference. Abu- and even separated Abu are both considered part of the same name, as is Ibn if it's treated as part of a last name. So I would only treat the variants of Al (Al, al, Al-, al-), if any, in this way. (In Egypt the…

I'm not sure if this is the right thread (if not, I'd appreciate being pointed toward the right one), but I recently posted elsewhere about a problem I'm having with sorting names of Arabic origin that actually should be sorted like Western names bu…
-
Well that's strange. I've been looking for appropriate threads but haven't found anything so far. I came across one that discusses non-Western naming conventions-- https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/2875/ -- but "Abu" in this conversation is men…
-
If so, I think that's the wrong way to do it. If "Abu" is part of the last name field, it's always considered part of the name, not as a dispensable prefix. I don't think anyone familiar with Arabic names would think of looking for Abu-Zahra under Z…
-
I see. So it's considering Abu- to be equivalent to van or de?

Thanks, I just updated to 4.0.8.2 and it now works for me in both Chrome (28.0.1500.63) and Chromium (25.0.1364.160-0ubuntu3).
-
Yes it does work in the latest version of Chrome for Ubuntu. Thanks for the suggestion.
-
The most recent one. I uninstalled the one I noticed the problem with and reinstalled from the Chrome extensions web site (4.0.8).
-
I'm having the same problem--no Zotero icon at all in the address bar for any web site, including Google Scholar, Google Books, my university's library site (which normally works), Amazon. I reinstalled the Chrome plugin and restarted my computer bu…
-
Thanks for the suggestions. Actually I've upgraded my storage, since I'm currently working on a collaborative project, so this isn't happening any more. (At least not until I add another 2GB of shared files.)
-
That may be the problem. When I turn on autosync but turn off syncing for files in group storage, the problem seems to go away. It comes back if I have both autosync and file sync for group libraries turned on. (I don't have sync for my personal lib…
-
For some reason it now seems to be happening only when auto sync is on. Yesterday it didn't seem to matter if I turned it on or off. I'll keep you updated if the problem comes back with auto sync off.

I just tried typing a note again and, like clockwork, about a minute into typing, it undid the last few words I wrote and sent the cursor to the beginning of the note. I submitted the debug output immediately after that.
