Import/Export Library Problems

This is the report id that zotero gave me: 402665935

When I export an rdf file, I always make sure that both the "export notes" and "export files" boxes are checked. However, the emailed rdf file, when imported, contains the notes but not the files. Help!

  • Are you sending the 'files' subdirectory that Zotero creates in the same directory as the RDF file?
  • When you export the items, Zotero should save an entire folder - by default it's called "Exported Items" - the files are in a separate folder - "Files" - within that folder.
    In order for them to be imported you should send the entire "Exported Items" folder - ideally as a .zip file.

    (It's also possible to just send the rdf file and the files folder, put them in the same directory and then import the rdf file - but that seems more error prone).

    If you don't get the "Exported Items" and the "Files" folder in it, then something is indeed going wrong with the rdf export.
  • I tried this time, but even compressed it's too big to send. Is there some other way to do this?
  • no.
    That means the file is too big to send. The included file is the only thing that's big, the rdf just has a couple of kb.
    There are a number of ways to get big files from one user to the other - including free file upload services, which you can google.
