Suggestion: Grab PDF/other image from saved link

Let's say you have a library item with an associated link to a PDF file, but you don't yet have a snapshot of the PDF (as you didn't have enough bandwidth or storage space or are restoring from a backup that didn't include the PDF images). It's quite awkward to then go out and grab the PDF image from the link (as of 2.0b6.5).

It would be ideal if there were an easy way to do this. Possibilities might include either a button on the right panel or a right-click menu item with the option to "Grab PDF from Page Source."

Just a suggestion ... I'd do this myself if I had the technical skill.

Thanks very much! Zotero is wondeful!
  • This isn't a bad idea, but it shouldn't be terribly awkward currently, at least if you have a PDF plugin installed—you can just click the link and then drag the favicon from the address bar to the item in Zotero. If you don't have a PDF plugin, it's difficult.
  • True, but some people such as myself don't use PDF plugins but rather use third party applications, so the link isn't displayed.

Another possibility would be to make Zotero's own link to the file (right under the 'View Page' button) draggable. This would have the same functionality, and also allow you to do other things like drag links to articles into email, HTML documents, and clone files within Zotero. Is this possible?

Yeah, I was thinking the same, actually. It's possible.
  • Attachment URL dragging has now been implemented on the trunk.
  • Beautiful!
