My sinc function keeps spinning, and it's constantly freezing my browser. Please help me fix or disable. Thanks! -

It should only freeze for the initial large sync, or if the sync never successfully completes (e.g., if you kill Firefox before it's done or it errors out).
Have you tried letting the sync run for a few minutes? Do you get an error icon over the sync icon (and a message on hover) when it's done? -

I've let it run for about two hours without progress. Every few minutes FF freezes (turns dark gray and stops functioning) for about half a minute, and then comes back. There's no way to stop the sync without exiting Zotero altogether. I have gotten the error icon, but not sure what brought it on. The message on hover is "Not yet synced." -

First, disable auto-sync in the Sync pane of the Zotero prefs, so you can control when Zotero tries to sync.
And then you might want to run Zotero with debug output enabled to see what's going on when it tries to sync. You can send the output to support@zot...org if necessary. -

Auto-sync is not enabled.
I've attempted to run debug output. Followed Linux instructions for my Ubuntu OS, but I don't know how to "restart [Firefox] via the command line," nor do I understand the "console" reference in "You should see debug output in the console as Firefox starts."
The arrow just keeps spinning. -

Open a terminal window, type 'firefox', and hit Enter.
If auto-sync isn't enabled, though, the sync icon should only spin once you actually click it. I assume you've restarted Firefox?
