Item numbers

I am sure I am missing something, but I cannot find any way to see how many items are in a collection, or returned by a search or keyword.
How can I do this?

To see how many items you have, click an item in the middle column and Select All (Command-A on OS X or Control-A on Windows). A count of selected items will appear in the right column.
