  • Start by disabling AutoZotBib, see if that makes a difference.
    Then run through
    https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues

It sounds like you may have deleted your translator folder but not used reset translators afterwards? In that case, you'd expect import to fail.

The translators directory would be recreated automatically. But yes, start by disabling AutoZotBib, which is what all those errors are from.
  • Thanks a lot dstillman ! I did this but still no joy. Error messages are less now though !

with kind regards and thanks Simon
  • which browser are you using?
Are you positive you have the respective connector installed for that browser?

If so, could we get a debug ID from the Zotero connector for loading or reloading a pubmed page, together with the URL for that page, please?
    https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#zotero_connectors_firefox_chrome_and_safari
  • Hej Adamsmith Thanks so much !
    I am using Firefox
Surely the connector must be installed because I was able to save websites and items from Pubmed before ? There is no entry for zotero connector in Firefox .
I did the debug the output was blank so nothing to submit to server ?
    best regards and thanks
    Simon
  • If there's no entry for Zotero at all in about:addons, you'll want to (re-)install it.
    https://www.zotero.org/download/
  • Thanks Adam
I have reinstalled Zotero for firefox as instructed (without uninstalling ). But the debug result is the same. A blank page and the Pubmed entry is not entered into the open subdirectory in Zotero. best regards and thanks Simon
  • Is the debug from ZOtero Standalone or from Zotero for Firefox?
  • Both the standalone and Zotero Firefox give the same answer on debug . A blank page. I can enter the pubmed or doi directly in these two programs I have found now. Could not do this before.
  • Something isn't right about debug. That logs hundreds of lines even if you just select different items. Could you describe how you're trying to generate that?
  • This is how I do it as instructed
Open the Advanced pane of the Zotero preferences. You can access the Zotero preferences from the gear menu in the Zotero toolbar. (In Zotero for Firefox, you can also access the Zotero preferences via the Firefox preferences.)
Click “Enable” under Debug Output Logging.
Immediately perform the relevant action (syncing, saving, importing, etc.).
Before doing anything else, click “Submit to Zotero Server” in the Advanced pane of the preferences. After uploading the output, Zotero will provide a Debug ID (e.g., “D12345678”) that you can post to the forums. There's no need to post the actual debug output.
But there is no output ?
  • What do you mean by "output"? Do you not get a Debug ID after clicking submit?
  • I enable debug as you outlined. Immediately try to download the Pubmed reference by clicking the Zotero page ikon in Firefox, to the open Zotrero folder. But nothing happens i.e. the output is blank.
Is this not the correct sequence of events ?
    thanks for attention !
  • Could you clarify what you mean by "the output is blank"? How do you tell?
Also, is this the debug output in the Firefox add-on or in Standalone? (It should be in the Firefox add-on)
  • OK Finally we are getting somewhere. I have been using the standalone before. Now with the zotero firefox I get the same error (nothing imported) and there IS a debug output which I submitted
    Here is the output

[JavaScript Error: "Invalid username or password" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/sync.js" line: 2595}]

[JavaScript Error: "Invalid username or password" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/error.js" line: 38}]

(5)(+0000000): SELECT itemID FROM fulltextItems WHERE synced=2

(3)(+0000001): No unprocessed full-text content found
  • The idea is to _submit_ the debug and post the debug ID, which Zotero returns, here.

But going by what seems like a misunderstanding of how Zotero for Firefox and Zotero Standalone relate as well as that invalid username password,
my guess is that the articles are actually downloading to Zotero for Firefox, which isn't syncing. You're looking in Zotero Standalone, so you're not seeing them.

Typically you'd set the two up to share the same data directory, which doesn't appear to be the case for you:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/sharing_data_directory
I'm guessing once you've done this, things will work as you expect.
  • Ok . I have synced the directories in Z.Standalone and Zotero firefox. It is the same data directory now in both. But I still cannot, by pressing the Firefox Zoteo "page" ikon, get the web page into a zotero folder in either standalone or Firefox zotero. I submitted the debug which now works. I find it confusing that there seems to be no difference between the 2 versions of Zotero so that I can see which is which.
thanks again for your help -much appreciated
  • We'd need the debug ID Zotero gives you after submitting the debug.
  • Thanks -sorry I understood that tyou received the debug information. For ome reson the Zotero "page" was missing fromthe firefox menu this morning. I reinstalled the Zotero translator. Then attempted to import a Pubmed reference. I got a very long debug message with zotero firefox 37791 pages . Copy and paste to this page of the whole report does not work so here are the first lines. I did the required actions in the debug and now I can import Pubmed references and pages.
Thank you so much for your help ! Simon
    [JavaScript Error: "The note '

image<img src="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAA…' in your library is too long to sync to zotero.org.

Shorten the note, or delete it and empty the Zotero trash, and then try syncing again." {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/sync.js" line: 652}]

  • Note that you're not supposed to copy&paste debug reports here. The way this is supposed to work is that you submit the report, Zotero give you back an ID (something like D1236543) and you post that here.

Anyway -- that message actually just means what it says. You have an image in a note that's preventing you from syncing. You can find the note by searchin for <img src="data:image/png;base64,iV or something along those lines in all fields & tags mode and should then either delete the note and empty the trash or remove the image.
  • Sorry I misunderstood you. Your quote "We'd need the debug ID Zotero gives you after submitting the debug." . I had already submitted the debug and understood that you wanted to see it her. Thanks for info about problem with img
  • Problem has returned. D314182715.
    I cannot find "

<img src="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAAâ€" using search "all fields and tags" . So please how do I find this in order to delete ? thanks again

  • have you a) emptied your Zotero trash and
    b) searched for only part of this (say img src="data:image/png;base64
  • Have emptied Zotero firefox trash (it was empty)
But I could not find img src="data:image/png;base64
or any part of this with search box
    Tried saving a Pubmed entry.
Result not saved , a blank entry in debug which therefore could not be sent as a report.
  • wait, I'm confused. Above you said
I did the required actions in the debug and now I can import Pubmed references and pages.
    did that suddenly stop working?
  • Yes . It did.
  • I tried to save a Pubmed reference to Zotero firefox. Still does not work I'm afraid
D1629235976. But how do I find the img . Do you have any other ideas of how I can find it ? Thanks.
  • As of that Debug ID, you were still getting errors from AutoZotBib. We can't help you as long as that's enabled and generating errors.
  • Thanks. I removed autozotlib. First time after that it worked. But then a second try (import from Pubmed) and an attempt at debug gave 375670 lines output which I was unable to see and I don't think able to send for debug. Therefore I cannot tell you the debug nr. I have emptied the trash Thanks again !
  • I managed to delete the problem line beginning "image<img src=" .
Then I deleted the entries in trash.
But importing from Pubmed to a folder in Zotero still does not work. I have sent the debug report D1624893334. Thank you for your attention.
