Setting lab up for default zotero library directory to a network drive in Lab environment.

Is there any documentation on how to set up Zotero default settings to always point to a network drive in a domain environment where users won't use the same machine over and over. I would like to avoid having our patrons/students having to do a preference change for every machine they use. Flash drive Firefox solution isn't a good option since students lose them a lot.

I found this article and some other posts but nothing solid for what I'm looking for.

  • The first answer is that Zotero 1.5 will make this much simpler. Users will simply login through the Zotero client, pull down their collections, add to and edit their collection and automatically save back into their account.

With the current release there should be ways to get stitch this together. I am not particularly familiar with these sort of set ups but if you are using a disk image platform you should be able to set the storage location preferences on the machine you use to create the disk image to use whatever location you have set up for remote storage. At which point the http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_over_a_network page should be a bit more useful.
  • Since the default Zotero directory is the firefox profile, why not just make sure that the profile is on the domain server? This would take care of not only Zotero, but bookmarks, browsing history, other extensions, etc.

In our domain, we use roaming profiles & so the whole "Documents and Settings" directory is stored centrally.
