Upgrade StorageExporting in RIS format VERY SLOW!

I wonder if someone can explain why exporting from Zotero to RIS format (with notes off) is so slow, and if there is something we can do to speed it up?
I'm pulling in citations from Google Scholar. And then exporting them into RIS format, for eventual upload into Refworks. The export out of GS goes very rapidly, but the export out of Zotero into an RIS file can take 15-20 minutes for just 20 citations! Eventually they do come over, but in the meantime all my Firefox browser instances are frozen!
