Zotero doesn't work with RoboForm-Add-On

Hi
I tried using Zotero for the first time today. Cool tool!!
But it took me quite a while until I found out, that it only works if I deactivate the Add-on "AI RoboForm Toolbar for Firefox" (www.roboform.com). ;-)

Here's what im using:
WinXP
FF 3.0.1
Roboform 6.9.91

The URLs I couldn't access with RoboFrom activated were:
http://opac.nebis.ch/F
http://biblio.uzh.ch/F
http://aleph.unibas.ch/menu.html

I really appreciate *both* Add-ons so it would be great if they could both work at the same time (e.g. I log onto the library's page with RoboForm and find a book I'd like to save with Zotero).
Thanks
Phoebo
  • Error: Permission denied to get property HTMLDocument.location
    Source File: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translate.js
Without looking much into this, I suspect there's not much we can do on our end. They appear to be doing something to the content document that makes it inaccessible from Zotero. Most of their core code also appears to be compiled, closed-source code, so they'd probably need to investigate on their end.

In the meantime, I've added RoboForm to our Known Issues page.
  • Hi Dan
Thanks for answering so quickly!! :-)
I'll contact RoboForm about this and post their answers here.
  • Actually, it's probably the same issue as this. I'm not sure if there's anything we can do about it on our end, but we'll look into it, since this same problem has come up before with at least one other extension (the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin) and probably others.
  • Roboform already answered:
"Most likely it is Zotero bug. I already reported how to reproduce the problem without Roboform http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/3910/ "
  • I want to add to this issue.
I also have a problem with using AI Roboform add-on together with zotero, but I'm not sure if it's the same situation.

My problem is when enabling both, I won't be able to capture any of the ScienceDirect articles, as well as the MIT Press Journals. 2 examples are:

    http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B8JH1-4RDS49K-4&_user=56761&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=c&_acct=C000059541&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=56761&md5=cad42548037e2a3e12551cd205a16dd1

    http://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1162/jocn.2009.21132?url_ver=Z39.88-2003&rfr_id=ori:rid:crossref.org&rfr_dat=cr_pub%3dncbi.nlm.nih.gov

    The Error message is:
    "Could Not Save Item
An error occurred while saving this item. Check Known Translator Issues for more information."

The odd thing is that all the other sites (eg PubMed) I tried all still working okay!
No problem with capturing. So I can't figure out why the combination will only cause problems on certain sites?

I'm using FF 3.0.3, Zotero 1.0.7, Vista, AI RoboForm 6.9.91

And also no problem occurs at all when using FF 2 (rest the same) on the same laptop PC with this combination.
I don't know if this information will help with identifying the main problem?

I really would love to use both Zotero and Roboform! both are great extensions!
  • I found another site that's not working with this combination:
    Google Scholar
