Errors were found in the Zotero database

I work on multiple computers at home and at work, so need to keep copies of my library in multiple places. I tried to export my library, but got an error message so I tried to check the database integrity and got the above message. Report 423462048 contains the log. How can I recover the database, continue using these data on this computer and successfully get an export to import on my other computers?

Thanks
  • Upgrade to Firefox 3, which fixes database instability problems in Firefox 2, and then use the DB Repair Tool.

Also note that import/export isn't the recommended way to use the same library on multiple computers. It's better to just copy the data directory to the other computer. (You can also store the data directory on a USB drive and set a custom location in the Advanced pane of the Zotero prefs or use Zotero with Firefox Portable.) The upcoming server sync support will make it much easier to use the same library on multiple computers.
  • OK, the upgrade to Firefox 3 and DB Repair Tool route worked. However, I still need to export my library because I actually need to merge two different libraries - since both are just large enough that I don't want to recreate them (yup - new user mistake - I assumed since there were import and export functions that I could start up separate libraries and merge them).
  • You should still be able to merge the two libraries by exporting and importing. It is just not recommended as a best practice for working with two collections. Try exporting the smaller of the two collections in Zotero RDF. If you have trouble exporting the collection try breaking it down into smaller export chunks, in some cases there is a single malformed item that is messing things up. If that does not work for you try exporting the library in another format like RIS or BibTeX.
