Sometimes I have a PDF files with a lot of references that I want to explore. Is there any way I can import these references automatically from the PDF file so I can explore them more easily?

I tried cb2Bib, but it only gave me the reference to the PDF file itself. Is that perhaps all it can do?
I wrote down another way which I found to be rather convenient:

(My perspective is a bit different than in the discussion you link to. I want to understand the article in the PDF file and check the references, i.e. I do not want to cite them, but perhaps check if they are correctly used.)
