"Zotero could not load the component..." error after updating Zotero Standalone

[For the fix, skip here -SK]

Hello all,

Since I installed Office 2013 a couple of days ago, I was having some problems (reading the forum they seemed normal) but more or less I could be writing papers and inserting bibliography normally, just disabling the "field" option while inserting. I read that with a Zotero new update, programmed for the end of this week everything was going to be solved.

Today, a new update was released and I proceed with it. However afterwards, when I tried to continue working with my documents, it was totally impossible to insert any reference. All time a message with "macro could not be found or it is disabled" was shown.

I checked in the templates section and everything seemed ok but I couldn't fix it.

Do you have any idea? Is there a known new issue with the new update?

Bests,

JM
  • You've the latest word plugin? http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation (if you've Z for Firefox; with Standalone: Zotero prefs pane)

A Report ID might be useful to the developers.
  • I'm using the Spanish version and the report ID is: 327940379

What I did to get it was to write text and try to insert citation. Then I got this message (in spanish):

"Zotero no ha podido cargar el componente necesario para comunicarse con tu procesador de textos. Por favor verifica que la extensión apropiada está instalada y prueba de nuevo."

That translated (maybe the terms can change) means:

"Zotero could not charge the needed component to communicate with your text processor. Please, verify the appropriated extension is installed and check again"

I've tried to update the plugin, but it seems to be not working because I'm using the zotero standalone as well.

I don't understand the last part.
You've to install the word plugin. If you use Standalone, you can install it from the "Cite" tab ("Citar" in Spanish) of the Zotero Prefs (gear icon).
  • Hello,

I add my symptoms to this post, because they are similar. Word 2007, Zotero standalone, until today's update of Zotero everything worked fine, now getting the same error message "Firefox could not load the component required to communicate with your wordprocesser. Please ensure..." (I repeat - i'm using standalone, i don't even have firefox installed;OS - win7)

    All the best

    Me too!
    Word/Zotero was working fine.
    Word 2010/Zotero 3.08 previously
Thought it would be worth upgrading to the newest zotero 3.0.12, now I get an error on trying to cite in word:
Zotero integration error : Zotero could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate extension is installed and try again.

Have tried reinstalling zotero (3.0.12), and removing word plugin and reinstalling

Multiple errors in Zotero - report id 1972759081
  • Further to the above - have uninstalled zotero (thanks to team for making it so easy to uninstall whilst keeping your library!) and installed version 3.0.11.1 (luckily CNET are out of date)
    Now works fine.
  • @all:
Indeed, I can confirm this. With Zotero Standalone 3.0.12, the MS Word plugin is broken. Re-installation doesn't change anything. (one more report id just in case: 2036092780)

We have to wait for Simon (word plugin dev) to take a look at that.
  • Jamesgamble1: Any chance for you to send me the 3.0.11 version? And how to deinstall/reinstall without loosing the links to your documents?
Any help is appreciated, I have the same problem (Report-ID: 1529224723) and need it to work!
    Thanks!

nevermind - Gracile beat me to it.

(these always follow the exact same pattern for all older Zotero versions btw.)
  • and you can just install an old version over a new one, re-installation doesn't touch the data (though you should always have a backup: http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#backing_up_your_zotero_library as a matter or principle)

Should be fixed in 3.0.12.1, available now. You can either tell Zotero to check for updates again (in the help Menu) or download from https://www.zotero.org/download/
  • Works perfectly for me now.

Thanks a lot for the quick response! Good job (like always)!
  • Hello!

With today's upgrade I confirm the standalone is working perfectly well. Many thanks for a quick fix.

    All the best!
