I have been successfully running Zotero 3.0.11.1 on a 2007 black MacBook with Word 2008. I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro (10.8.2) and used the Migration Assistant to transfer everything across. When I try to insert an annotation in a Word document, I get this error:

[Exception... "'The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1728.) @[getDocument:application.m:100]' when calling method: [zoteroIntegrationApplication::getDocument]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/integration.js :: _callIntegration :: line 273" data: no)

I've tried restarting, starting Zotero from the terminal, but no luck. Any ideas?

This looks like the same issue as http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/26682/error-in-word-2008-integration-getdocumentapplication100/ and http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/26474/new-laptop-wont-work-with-zotero/, but thanks for the hint about Migration Assistant being the potential culprit. I'll see if using Migration Assistant allows me to (finally) reproduce this.

Incidentally,
- I have all the latest updates for Word.
- Removing and re-installing Zotero and the plugin didn't help.
- The error I reported was with the standalone version of Zotero, but I tried using the Firefox version instead, and did the tip about reverting to 3.5.5 plugin for Firefox to see if I could at least use Word with Zotero in Firefox. I then got the error message 'Zotero fields cannot be inserted here'.

I am 3 days away from having to submit 17,000 words with a lot of citations in, so if getting Word for Mac 2011 would solve this, I'd run out and buy it.

Indeed - I've just bought and installed it, and it's all working fine now. That's one migration problem solved.
