Hey,
I made another style. IICA CATIE.
Could somebody help me to get it in the repostory??
If I want to make some corrections later, is there a posibility to upgrade the style once it is in the repostory?

I´m happy to hear it!
Now, the errors of the style are the same. The variable "language".
I dit try it on the test pane and it worked well. Eaven in the mapping of variables "langugage" is present. So my question is, how to put it in the style.
Could you please help me with it? The thing is: It does not accept it with the element names variable either with text variable. And it has to go lowercase. =)

Actually, "language" is _not_ a variable in CSL: http://citationstyles.org/downloads/specification.html#appendix-iv-variables

(It works in the test pane because citeproc-js (the csl processor which Zotero uses) implements it as a variable.)

What does IICA-CATIE stand for? Is the citation format described online? Is it required to show the language of the reference?

I was surprised to discover that language is not a variable. What's the reason?

Localization, mostly. For now we recommend that users use locale codes (e.g. "en-US") to indicate the language of items, since these can be reliably parsed by the CSL processor (which is important; e.g., citeproc-js uses the language value to forgo title casing on non-English items). But it doesn't make much sense to display such codes in references (since, well, they're for computers, not humans). To support strings like "English" or "en ruso", we would need a comprehensive mapping table between language codes and names ("ru-RU" is "Russian" in "en-US", "en ruso" in "es-ES", etc.), and have a good way to parse language name strings. No fun.

At the UI-level, a drop-down list would be more efficient. You would not need to parse strings and the three levels ("ru-RU"(1) is "Russian"(2) in "en-US"(3)) are reduced to two ("russian" in the list is "ru-RU" for the computer.)

I was surprised this option has not been considered (except for MLZ). It's not unusual in France to indicate the source-language or the target-language in a bibliography ("translated from Russian by xxx").

To my knowledge MLZ doesn't do this either. Feel free to open an issue in the CSL schema GitHub repository, though. It's worth exploring, but I don't think there are any easy solutions that work well across language domains.

Actually I was referring to the fact that "language" is not a CSL variable and to the use case described by the OP.

You can't use the "language" field as a variable: that's why there's an error in your style. As you wrote it, your style works... but it's an error.
You might decide to use the "extra" field as a workaround.

Actually, your newest version contains two errors. In the bibliography, you introduced a call to the "editor-short" macro, which doesn't exist, and you declared the "collection-title" macro twice.

Thats curious because I just eliminate a "." in a suffix. I will check it.

Well, if the IICA CATIE has a default locale, I do not know what that means.
But the IICA CATIE is used for Agronomic Investigations in Latin America and Caribbean. Its a spanish style.

It saves us a lot of work. Let us know if that doesn't work for you & we'll do it manually, but we're trying to shift to running this through pull requests as much as possible.

The question about default-locale: Are all publication using that style in Spanish? If so, we would want default-locale="es" included in the row of the style that starts with <style...

If I get it right, Marcelo Wall was the one who introduced the IICA - CATIE citation style to zotero.

I wanted to thank you a lot for this action
Zotero is one of the few reference managers that have this style incorporated, and it´s really useful.
