Can't See Library Online

My library on my laptop keeps disappearing when I try to search for files. I scroll down to try and find things and all of a sudden the files just disappear and my library goes blank. The files are still there, but I can't see them. Any ideas?
  • What exactly are you referring to? The Zotero client or zotero.org?
  • The Zotero client. When I open it on my computer I can see the library. But then when I go to search or scroll through it, the library goes blank. Then when I run the cursor over the library the things in it reappear in that specific screen but as soon as I scroll down again, the exact same thing happens and the library disappears.
  • try disabling all themes/personas and other add-ons and see if the problem persists.
And what's your set-up? (OS, Firefox version, Zotero version)
  • Sorry I'm a bit confused. I don't even know what themes/personas and other add-ons means. My set up is that I have Macbook Air from 2011. I use Firefox. I have Zotero for Microsoft 2004 or later. Thanks so much for your help! I'm such a huge fan of Zotero and am totally hooked on it while I'm trying to finish my doctoral dissertation. Any help would be really great!
  • In Firefox, under Tools-->Add-ons
(alternatively get there by pasting about:addons in the URL bar)
Check if you have anything except "Default" under Appearance - if so, switch to "default"
Check if you have anything except Zotero and Zotero Word Integration under "Extensions" - if so, disable it. (That is a temporary step for troubleshooting - you can re-enable the extensions later on).
Restart Firefox, see if you still have that problem.
  • I had one other extension which was the Zot File. I disabled and restarted Firefox but the same thing happened. Sorry.
  • provide an error report ID, please
    http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs#provide_a_report_id
(you can re-enable ZotFile if you haven't already).
  • I am not getting any error reporting ID - sorry. I don't know what that even means. There isn't an error notification.
  • That's why I link to an explanation. If anything on that page is unclear, please ask.
  • Sorry. I'm a space case. Here is my error ID 539842131

I suspect that we have the same problem. Read all of the thread. I posted a video that captures the problem.

I went to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store to ask about the problem. I was told, "We've seen this. Don't use FireFox. For some time, recent updates to FireFox have done things with rendering that will not work with video on most Macs." Although I asked for more details, he could provide none.

That doesn't solve our problem but it is a start.

My own work-around is: Don't use FF Zotero in tab mode. Don't view my full library. Keep the number of items in collections to a minimum by using sub collections. The problem rarely happens except when I scroll down a long list of Zotero records.
