Why no strip-periods on et-al?

Springer author-date has et-al with period in-text and without period in the bibliography.
I thought that was going to be easy to fix with
<names variable="author">
</name>
<et-al strip-periods="true"/>
</names>

and indeed that does work, but it doesn't validate ("Attribute strip-periods not allowed on element et-al)". Any reason why not? Could we add that? Or did I do something stupid and this works in principle.

    Opening up strip-periods on that element probably wouldn't do any harm. Meanwhile, though, you can use term="and others" for the non-period term, and redefine it in the style.

    thanks - yeah, I know - but that's ugly and I'm lazy ;-).
  • Another vote for enabling strip-periods here. Needed for the Neuropsychopharmacology style I a working on.
  • pbhedlund - you realize there is a workaround as described by fbennet, right? If you need help implementing it let us know.
  • Yes, I am using the workaround. I just wanted to voice my support for implementing the proposed enhancement.
