howto build, run, and (mostly) test the standalone client (aka sa, Zotero Everywhere)

(apologies for the whitespace-heavy rendering applied to HTML by this forum)

summary: I can build and run the Zotero standalone client on Ubuntu Lucid, but have some questions (esp last 2 items at end). Your assistance is appreciated.

details:

As noted on the wiki, I have 3 main questions (in ascending order of importance to me):

  1. How to automate verification of the xulrunner download? See comments in the scriptlet. I tried all the ways to invoke sha512sum that made sense to me, but none worked. I'd appreciate knowing how to do this correctly.

  2. How to run from Chrome? Apologies if this is a FAQ, but my googling found nothing more concrete than this enticing image from the blog (from October). How to configure/run/test that using my built sa?

  3. How to test the built sa? beyond a mere smoketest. I'd especially like to know:

    1. Is there a more extensive test suite? E.g., what do youse do pre-commit?

    2. How to load up my own (backed up) Zotero data (from my Firefox profile, or wherever else it might be) and do actual work?
Your assistance, esp pointers to doc, are appreciated.
