Error starting Zotero: Unresolved after reading other posts

Hey - LOVE Zotero. Hoping someone can help.

This is the same issue others have posted, but none of the fixes have worked for me. I have tried to be very careful, do one thing at a time, and follow all the instructions, but haven't had any luck.

I have a new MacBook Pro. I used Zotero version 1 on another computer (same operating system and version), and successfully upgraded to 2.0. But Zotero is not working with this new machine for some reason.

Mac OS 10.6.3
I'm aiming to install Zotero 2.0.2 on Firefox 3.6.3

Zotero will not start up (yellow error triangle across zotero icon in status bar; will not start up via dropdown menu; I can get to preferences via "Add-ons" menu).

I tried all of the suggestions in these forums:

http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/12284/zotero-doesnt-start-at-all-on-a-mac/

http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/12195/there-was-an-error-starting-zotero/

http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/12052/upgrade-failure/

http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/12054/trouble-firefox-362/

Here are the other things I have tried:

Firefox:
-reinstalled
-Deleted all add-ons (uninstalled)
-Deleted firefox pref
-Tried an older version of firefox

Zotero:
-Tried a reinstall using each of 3 methods suggested at "troubling installing?" link
-wiped computer of all zotero information to start clean, then reinstalled
- as per above forum suggestions, tried earlier versions of zotero - version 1 worked with a previous version of firefox, but any type of upgrade failed (included those recommended above)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Starting with a clean slate (Zotero uninstalled, all add-ons uninstalled), I tried one last time. Here are the results.

Firefox 3.6.3 (error console logging enabled)
Installed Zotero 2.0.2 via Zotero homepage download.
Restarted Firefox.
Zotero did not start.

I tried the procedure at the below page one more time, and it did not work.

Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance!
  • rm: /Users/Shared/.zoteroIntegrationPipe_conniewolfe: is a directory
That's very, very strange, and we have no idea how these things are happening—they can't really be done by Zotero itself—but this should fix it:

    sudo rmdir /Users/Shared/.zoteroIntegrationPipe_conniewolfe
  • THANK YOU!! It works now. I don't think I did anything wacky, but I probably did.

Having trouble syncing from server now, but I need to do more research and hopefully I'll find a resolution without having to bug you again.

    Thanks so much!
  • I have a new MacBook Pro.
If you're still following this thread, did you by any chance copy your data from another Mac? Another user has reported the same issue after doing so.
  • Yes. I transferred data from a white MacBook (snow leopard) to the most recent model of the Macbook Pro (snow leopard).

BTW, I figured out how to sync the data just fine (great new service). Best of luck to the other user. -thanks.
  • OK, thanks. This appear to be a bug in the OS X Migration Assistant.
