Firefox 3.6 hangs after installing Zotero 2.0.2

This seems to be a new one. Yesterday I upgraded to Firefox 3.6, then tried to upgrade to Zotero 2.0.2. (From 1.0.1) I downloaded from Zotero homepage OK. It said my database was corrupted so i used the Zotero tool to fix that by uploading a zip file of zotero.sqlite, and then replaced the old zotero.sqlite with the fixed one. All Ok so far. But when I tried to restart Firefox it said it was a major Zotero upgrade and would take some minutes to complete. I pressed continue, but it hung for hours. I have now uninstalled Zotero 2.0.2, replaced my Zotero folder with the old one and done the whole download and fix database process three times, but it still hangs. If I press cancel (for the upgrade window) when opening Firefox, Zotero opens but there is no data in the library.

I have a Mac OS X 10.4.11. My zotero files are all on an external hard drive, which i directed there using the preferences (it is not in Firefox cache).
  • It certainly shouldn't take that long, but for some users with large database and slow computers (which you likely have if you still have Tiger) the upgrade process might take hours. You might try simply leaving it running overnight.
  • It's also possible your external hard drive is particularly slow. You might try copying your data directory to your internal hard drive and pointing Zotero there (which you should be able to do even after canceling the upgrade wizard by going to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions -> Zotero -> Preferences -> Advanced).

You can monitor CPU and disk activity in Activity Monitor while the upgrade is going to make sure it's actually progressing.
  • Thanks I'll try that
  • I left it overnight and the update completed. My library is there. Yes I do have a large database (and yes I do need to load Leopard!). Thanks for the help!
