how to localize "and" & "et al." in author list to my language?

I am now developing a citation style for Chinese, by modifying Chicago style to my specific style with Chinese character in the format. However, I discover a problem that I am not able to localize the following,
1. when the number of author/editor is 2 or more, the author/editor list in bibliography will show as, "author1, author2, and author3". In which, I would like to replace the string "and" with a Chinese word (equivalent meaning in Chinese). However, I cannot define this "and" string.
2. similarly, when the number of author/editor is more than a number, says 4, it will truncate the list as, "author1, et al.", in which the string "et al." seems to be hardcoded as well that I am not able to replace this with another equivalent Chinese string.

Does anyone have the solution of the above?
  • you can define them in the term section of the style

    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/csl_syntax_summary#terms
    the terms are called
    "and" and "et-al"
If that's not clear, first search the forum a bit, then feel free to ask here for clarification.

Also, I believe they should automatically localize if you use Chinese Firefox.
  • Thanks for your reply. However, my situation is not that easy. In most of the cases, I will have both English books and Chinese books in my bibliography. For English books, I would like to have the term "and" & "et-al" shown as "and" and "et al." respectively, but for Chinese books, I prefer these terms to be shown in Chinese characters. So far, zotero is not able to support such features, right? Do you have any tentative workaround?
  • sorry, I have nothing for you. While people are aware of this as an issue, I really don't know if there is going to be a solution in any foreseeable future - there just doesn't seem to be a decent way of handling something like this.
