Office 2010 beta with beta 2.0 not working

I am beta testing the new office 2010 and I am trying to get zotero 2.0 to work with this new version of word. However, the macro doesn't want to work.

The *.dot file contains do data?????

I would just create a new macro but I have no idea how to do it. would I need the zotero script?

I wouldn't mind getting it to work...............any help is appreciated.
  • Uninstall the dot file completely, restart Word to make sure it's gone, and reinstall the Zotero Word plugin.
  • did that.............didn't help
  • should the zotero.dot file be empty?
  • Empty meaning what? You should never need to double-click on the .dot file, and it would be empty if you did, if that's what you mean. How exactly are you trying to use this?
  • Yes, I opened it up to have a look and there was nothing there.
I figured that there would be a macro script or something for me to use to allow zotero to work in word. If i could make a new macro based-off of the old script code, it might work.

I have allowed for the security trust center to allow all macro to see if this was the answer, but it didn't help.
  • OK, let's back up here. The Word plugin works with Office 2010—you shouldn't need to do anything special to get it to work. The plugin uses a toolbar that should appear if the plugin is properly installed. You should never need to open the .dot file directly.

    Start with the usage documentation.
  • The plug-in shows up in the Add-ons tab, but when you select a paper to be insert or a bibliography insertion; really any type of action associated with the icons, then you get the macro error........
I don't see why there is an error. The new version of windows office isn't really any different than office 2007.........
Are you beta testing it too?
  • We've tested it with Word 2010, as have others.
    you get the macro error........
What macro error? You haven't told us the actual problem you're experiencing, which is the first step before we can try to help you.
  • "the macro cannot be found or is disabled because of your macro security settings."

The thing is that I have chosen to accept all macros. so I don't have any security set.

The help screen says : "This message can appear if:
The macro was deleted from the template.
The template was not loaded or referenced in the Templates and Add-ins command.
The macro was turned off by the macro security settings of your system.
If the macro security settings are not allowing the macro to run, you should confirm the origin of the macro to be sure that it can be trusted (contact the developer or the source for the macro). You can then temporarily enable all macros by using the following procedure.
Click the File tab, click Options, click Trust Center, and then click Trust Center settings.
    Click Macro Settings.
Under Macro Settings, click Enable all macros.
NOTE: Be sure to change this option back to its original setting after you have run the macro.
If the macro is not accessible because the template is not loaded, click the File tab, click Options, and then click Add-Ins. At the bottom of the Add-Ins pane, select Templates from the Manage drop down list, and then click Go. In the Templates and Add-ins dialog box, click either Attach or Add. If the macro is not in the template, you may need to copy the macro from one template to another. Click the Organizer button at the bottom of the Templates and Add-ins dialog box to start the Organizer utility."

The last paragraph is the one that I was trying to do, but i can't copy the macro from one template to the other, because it isn't on the list from which i could choose from.

Lastly, I am using the 64-bit beta , have you also tried this too?
  • Shawn,

You won't be able to use the 64-bit Office 2010 beta with Zotero, as 32-bit plugins (ActiveX and otherwise) won't work. See the information here.

You should continue to stick with 32-bit Office 2010, as Microsoft recommends it (or until 64-bit plugins are available).

    Regards,
    Dan
  • thanks Dan,

I like using Zotero, so I have decided to just use OpenOffice instead of MSOffice 2010 64-bit ver.

I don't think there needs to be a whole lot of different programming, as the plugin is found by WORD and the icon buttons are there........ anyway, I will keep my eye out for the 64-bit plugin.
  • Hey all,

I think I've tracked down part of the problem. If you are on a 64-bit system and use the "Click-to-Run" installed MS installs the 64-bit beta without giving you an option to install the 32-bit. Weider still it appears to install the 64-bit beta in your (x86) folder.

If you want to use the Zotero plugin, uninstall office (you'll have to reboot) and download the 32-bit professional version of Office via this link:
    http://us2.office2010beta.microsoft.com/product.aspx?sku=10199914&culture=en-US

BTW, uninstalling office does not touch any of your files, so you can go through the process pretty quickly (under half an hour).
