Saving documents in Word format in OpenOffice - citations get lost

I use Zotero 1.0 with Firefox 3.5.4 and OpenOffice 3.1.1. under Linux. When I write a text with citations from Zotero and save the text with Microsoft Word format, close the document and open it again later, the Zotero citations have lost their Zotero citations character, i.e. are not highlighted in grey anymore and are not editable anymore with the "edit citation" button. They have become plain text. Most seriously, they are not recognized anymore by the "insert bibliography" function.

Is there any way to avoid this (except for not saving in Word format)?

Thank you!
  • You have to use Bookmarks mode if you're saving as .doc from OpenOffice. Unless you're doing frequent cross-platform work, it's generally better to use Reference Mark mode and .odt and switch to Bookmarks mode at the end.

Bookmarks mode was broken in some earlier versions of the plugin, though, so if you have trouble you may need to upgrade to 2.0 and the 2.0-compatible plugins.
  • Thanks a lot for your help. Bookmarks mode works fine with Word.
